THE PRINCE OF PEACE
The Christmas celebration is over. Radio stations stopped playing Christmas carols, and stores have stored their merchandises until the end of the year. The same thing is happening with our Christmas decorations; natural pines are being thrown into the garbage, and the other adornments are put away until next Christmas. But, for people who have established a real relationship with Jesus, the celebration of his birth, death, and resurrection is all year round. Prophet Isaiah described Jesus as the Prince of Peace when he wrote: “For a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6) Jesus is our Prince of Peace. We are starting a new year with a new vision and a new hope for a new year of peace. The celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ should not be only on Christmas time, but all year round. Jesus is the only one with the authority to say, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you; not like the world gives do I give to you.” (John 14:27) Prophet Isiah talks about Jesus’ birth over 750 years before Jesus was born. Isaiah's message is a message of hope and peace, not only for the Jews, but for anyone who believes in God’s promises. The leaders of different nations have been looking for peace in the world on different occasions, but real peace is found only in Jesus. In 1945, 51 nations got together to form the Organization of the United Nations (UN). In 1948, (OAS) Organization of American States was formed. In 1961, the Peace CORPS was formed to bring order and peace to the countries where it was needed.
These organizations were formed to bring peace among nations, but Jesus said: “For when they say, ‘peace and safety!’ then sudden destruction will come upon them.” (1 Thessalonians 5:3) Prophet Isaiah is known as the gospel of the Old Testament because he visualized and prophesized about the birth, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus in a precise form. Everything Isiah said about Jesus was fulfilled and is written in the four gospels. He wrote about Jesus with the following: “For until us a child is born, until us a Son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder. And his name will be called wonderful, counselor, mighty God, everlasting father, prince of peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end…” (Isaiah 9:6-7) In the 4th century DC, Roman Emperor Publio Flavio Vegelio said in Latin language. “Si Vis Pecem, Para Bellem.” “If you want peace, get prepared for war.” Years later, Pope John Paul II made this phrase very popular, but Jesus said something better, “peace I leave you, my peace I give you, not the peace this world offers.”
Jesus is the Prince of
peace, and real peace is found only in Jesus. This new year, we must become agents of peace, but I cannot be an agent of peace if I am not at peace with God, with my neighbor, and with myself. When Jesus was born, a choir of angels sang a song saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to whom his favor rests.” (Luke 2:14) The peace of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, be with you every day in 2026.
