MARCH 2026
WE ARE ON A MISSION TRIP
Since the day we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are on a mission trip that will end the day we depart from this earth or the day of Jesus’s return. The purpose of this mission trip is to go and share the Good News of Christ with other people wherever we go. This mission trip is not an option for us, but an order from Jesus. Before Jesus ascended to heaven, he ordered his Disciples: “Go into the world and preach the Gospel to every nation.” (Mark 16:15) This order was given to the first Disciples, and the first Christians, but today it has been passed on to us. Many of us have failed to obey this order, and some of us may think that this order is only for missionaries, evangelists, and pastors, but the command is for all followers of Jesus Christ. Not all of us will have the opportunity to travel to other countries to preach the gospel, but we all can tell other people about the plan of salvation God has for them through Jesus. There are many ways for us to be engaged in sharing the Good News of Christ to people in different forms, and in different places, by using different resources God has placed in our hands. The only thing we need to do is to be willing to accept the invitation to this mission trip and go.
My wife, Pastor Z, and I have used our vacation time on different occasions to go on mission trips to different places like Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and the Dominican Republic. Four years ago, we spent a week in the Dominican Republic on a mission trip with other relatives and friends. A mission trip to another country requires some financial resources, but we presented our plan to God, and he provided through people who understood the value of investing in the business of gaining souls for Christ. We prayed and presented the plan to the churches we were serving as pastors. We also organized some activities to raise funds for that mission trip. Finally, the churches and friends helped us to buy the things we needed to share with some poor families in a small town in the North-Eastern area of the Dominican Republic. With the offering we received, we bought Bibles, New Testaments, food, backpacks, school supplies, toys, clothes, and shoes for children and adults.
Thanks to God and to our supporters, our mission trip was a success. We distributed over 100 backpacks with school supplies to children with limited resources. We also distributed over 200 bags of food that included rice, beans, spaghetti, oil, salami, sugar, and other things. We did not have enough to feed the whole town, but at least we provided food for one day to these families. A doctor and a dentist spent a whole day screening people and providing some money for their medications.
On one occasion, we saw a young man on a street searching for some food from garbage. We stopped and handed him some money to buy food. On another occasion, we saw another man selling bread on the streets to provide food for his family. We donated some clothes and a few dollars to help him. Another woman was in need, and we also helped her. We saw many children joyfully receiving their backpacks with school supplies, and some clothes and toys. It was a great experience for us, but the most important thing that happened during this mission trip was that many people heard the Good News of Christ and accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. We took every opportunity to share the Good News of Christ with the people we encountered on our way, and twelve people accepted Jesus as their personal Savior. This was a victory. Among the people who received Jesus there was a doctor, a beautician, a security guard, and a girl who works in a pharmacy. The Bible says that there is joy in heaven when a sinner is saved. Jesus said: “I tell you that in the same way there is more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.” (Luke 15:7) God has given us enough resources to bring the Good News of Christ to people who need to hear a word of hope in a tangible and practical way. Remember this, we all are together on a mission trip to this world.
Have a blessed Lent Season!
