EMPLOYMENT OPENING: ORGANIST and/or Pianist

Evangelical United Methodist Church, located in Washington, IL is looking for a skilled organist (piano a plus) for our Sunday morning worship service, along with other services as needed.  The primary role of the Organist is to provide and utilize appropriate sacred music, in a professional manner, for the spiritual enrichment and inspiration of the congregation.  Our service and music are primarily traditional in nature and may be classified as formal, informal, or special as assigned.

This position is available starting in September 2024.

What You Need to be Successful:
•A high level of competency and musicianship with the organ (piano is a plus)
•Experience with religious music
•Ability to work collaboratively with the Pastor and other supporting committees on the selection and playing of music
•Ability to sight-read music
•Strong desire to serve God and our ministry through music

Responsibilities:
The Organist…
•Shall play the organ at Sunday morning worship services.
•Shall coordinate with the Senior Pastor and Worship Committee all services including special services such as Thanksgiving, Advent, Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Easter and others as needed during the year.
•Shall be responsible for obtaining an appropriate substitute if necessitated by illness, emergency or vacation.
•Shall notify as soon as possible the Senior Pastor if there is need of a substitute.
•Shall wear appropriate professional attire for all worship services.
•Shall provide pertinent information regarding Sunday’s selections to the Administrative Assistant for insertion into the church bulletin. (Day and time for submission to be determined by the Administrative Assistant)
•In collaboration with the Worship Committee, assist with the maintenance of organ and pianos to ensure each is in tune and working properly.
•May be presented with optional opportunities to perform for weddings and memorial services with payment to be made by each requesting family.
