We are ready to begin the season of Lent once again. Ash Wednesday this year falls on February 14. As in past years, we will have a worship service at 7 pm that will include communion and the imposition of ashes (ashes in the sign of the cross on the forehead). I encourage you to come begin your Lenten season in worship.
I think it is interesting that Lent begins on a day that we celebrate love. While we often think of Lent as a somber time (which, in many ways, it is), I think that beginning the season on Valentine’s Day can give us another perspective. Lent is a season of reflection as we seek to improve our relationship with God. Sometimes we will give up something or take on something new. Whatever we do, and whatever we may discover during our season of introspection, the unwavering constant is God’s love. God’s love never ends. God’s love is unconditional. God’s love is for all. God’s love is unearned, undeserved, and all encompassing.
As you walk through this season of Lent, think of God’s wonderful Valentine gift of love. Rejoice in all the love that God has blessed you with!
